You may have noticed that our posts are no longer up to date when it comes to references to Fast Passes. At Disneyland, there is now a system for attractions called Genie +. You can now get through ride lines using Lightning Lanes (rather than fast passes) using Genie +. Genie + is a paid service. Depending on the number of days in the parks and the ages of members of your family, it can really help you make the most of your vacation!
Here are some specifics:
- Cost: Genie+ is priced per person, per day. The price may vary depending on the day and season.
- Booking Attractions:
- You can Genie + to your tickets starting at midnight of the day of your park reservation. We usually add it while waiting in the security line before the parks open. You can then book attractions using Genie+ through the Disneyland app starting at 7:00 AM on the day of your visit.
- Reservations can be made one at a time throughout the day, subject to availability.
- Attractions Included:
- Most attractions that offer Lightning Lane access are included with Genie+. This includes popular rides like Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
- There are a few high-demand attractions (like Radiator Springs Racers in Disney California Adventure) that are not included with Genie+ and require a separate individual Lightning Lane purchase.
- Disney PhotoPass:
- This is one of the best benefits- on a day you have Genie+, ALL PhotoPass downloads for the day are included. When you purchase Genie+ at Disneyland, you get unlimited downloads of your Disney PhotoPass photos taken on that day. This includes photos taken by Disney PhotoPass photographers throughout the parks, as well as attraction photos and videos where available (such as on attractions like Radiator Springs Racers and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!).
- Having the PhotoPasss helps encourage us to get pictures throughout the parks from the professional photographers. So many of those pictures are our favorites of our family.
- Lightning Lane:
- Once you make a reservation through Genie+, you can enter attractions via the Lightning Lane entrance during the designated return time (usually it’s a one hour window).
- This typically results in significantly shorter wait times compared to the standby queue.
- After using your initial Genie+ reservation, you can make additional Lightning Lane reservations throughout the day, one at a time, as availability allows.
- In addition to Genie+, you have the option to purchase individual Lightning Lane access for certain high-demand attractions. high demand or limited availability attractions may require an additional purchase beyond Genie+. We have used this for Rise of the Resistance, Web Slingers and Radiator Springs Racers. The wait for RSR at night can be really long, but it’s our favorite with the amazing lights in Radiator Springs, so for us it’s worth it!
- The price for individual Lightning Lane purchases varies depending on the attraction and date.

- Reduced Wait Times: Both Genie+ and individual Lightning Lane purchases significantly reduce the time you will spend waiting in line for attractions.
- Convenience: You can plan your day more efficiently by booking attractions in advance through the Disneyland app and enjoy more flexibility in your park experience. These services are designed to enhance guest satisfaction by offering more control over their theme park visit and minimizing wait times for popular attractions at Disneyland.
